Concept Explanation

Construction of Perpendicular Bisector

Construction of Perpendicular Bisector: Perpendicular Bisector is a straight line which is perpendicular to the line and divides it into two equal parts.

Steps of Construction: We are given a line segment PQ and we want to draw a perpendicular bisector.

Step I: Draw  a line  and mark two points P and Q. Now PQ is a line segment.

Step 2: Take a compass place the pointer edge on P and mark two arcs on the both sides of PQ with radius more than half of line segment PQ.
Step 3: With same radius place the pointer edge on Q and mark two arcs on the both sides of PQ intersect the arcs at point X and Y.
Step 4: Join XY. This XY is the perpendicular bisector of line segment PQ. Now XY is perpendicular to PQ and divides PQ into two equal parts.
